Average monthly earnings for these two groups were NOK 30 300 and NOK 29 000, respectively. These figures corresponded to an increase of NOK 1 000 and NOK 1 100.

Men and women

There are more women than men employed in publicly maintained schools. However, the differences in wages are relatively smaller than in most other sections. For female full-time employees, monthly earnings averaged NOK 30 000 while the monthly earnings of males were NOK 31 200. Though, the difference between the sexes is less than 4 per cent.

About the statistical basis

The statistics are based on information on 61 198 full-time employees in publicly maintained schools reported to the Staff Administration Information System (PAI) of the Norwegian Association of Local and Regional Authorities per 1 November 2004. In 2003, this information was reported to the Central Register of Government Employees in the School System per 1 October.
