Teachers' earnings increased by NOK 600

Average monthly earnings for full-time employees in publicly maintained schools were NOK 31 100 in December 2005. This was an increase of NOK 600 or 1.9 per cent from November 2004.

Men working full-time had average monthly earnings of NOK 31 700, an increase of NOK 500 or 1.5 per cent from December 2004. Women had monthly earnings of NOK 30 700, which corresponds to an increase of NOK 700 or 2.2 per cent.

Five out of six employees in publicly maintained schools have tertial education, four years or less. Average monthly earnings for this group were NOK 30 900, an increase of NOK 600 or 2.1 per cent. Women with this kind of education had monthly earnings of NOK 30 600, while men had NOK 31 300. This corresponds to an increase of NOK 700 or 2.4 per cent for women and NOK 500 or 1.8 per cent for men.

Publicly maintained schools consist of teaching staff in primary and secondary education.

About the statistical basis

The statistics are based on information on 60 612 full-time employees in publicly maintained schools reported to the Staff Administration Information System (PAI) of the Norwegian Association of Local and Regional Authorities per 1 December 2005.
