Monthly earnings up NOK 2 000

Full-time employees in membership organisations had an average monthly earning of NOK 34 800 per 1 october 2006. This is an increase of NOK 2 000 from 2005, equivalent to 6 per cent.

Membership organisations include business, employers' and professional organisations, trade unions and other membership organisations.

Employer organisations and trade unions

Monthly earnings for employees in employer organisations were NOK 42 400, an increase of NOK

2 900 or 7 per cent. In comparison, employees in trade unions had average monthly earnings of NOK 35 900, an increase of NOK 1 900 or 5.5 per cent from 2005.

Recreational, cultural and sporting activities

This sector includes radio, television and motion picture activities, news agencies, museums, libraries, sporting activities as well as other entertainment and recreational activities. Full-time employees in radio and television activities had average monthly earnings of NOK 34 300 which is equivalent to an increase of NOK 1 200, or 3.6 per cent. Full-time employees in other cultural and recreation activities had average monthly earnings of NOK 29 900.

Sewage and refuse disposal

Full-time employees in sewage and refuse disposal had monthly earnings of NOK 27 500, an increase of NOK 1 400 or about 5 per cent from 1 October 2005. Monthly earnings for employees in elementary occupations amounted to NOK 23 500, while operators and drivers had monthly earnings of NOK 26 500. This corresponds to an increase of NOK 600 and NOK 2 000, respectively.

Washing and dry cleaning of textile and fur products

Full-time employees in washing and dry-cleaning had monthly earnings of NOK 23 700, an increase of NOK 900 or 4 per cent from 2005. Monthly earnings for operators and drivers were NOK 21 700. This was an increase of NOK 1 000.

Hair dressing and other beauty treatment

Employees in hairdressing and other beauty treatment had average monthly earnings of NOK 22 500. This is an increase of NOK 300 from 2005.

Full-time employees in this sector had on average monthly earnings of NOK 29 600, which is an increase of NOK 500 or 1.5 per cent.

Annual earnings up 4.4 per cent

Estimated annual earnings for full-time employees in social and personal service activities were NOK 385 400 in 2006. This was an increase of 4.4 per cent. Employees in membership organisations had estimated annual earnings of NOK 411 600, NOK 21 200 more than the previous year. Employees in recreation, cultural and sporting activities had estimated annual earnings of NOK 388 200. This was an increase of NOK 12 000 or 3.2 per cent.

Estimations of earnings

The increase in annual earnings differs somewhat from the increase in monthly earnings. Monthly earnings are compared at a specific date each year, while the change in annual earnings is from one calendar year to the next. The average annual earnings are estimated by use of information from wage statistics from at least two years as well as information from wage negotiations. Annual earnings do not include payment for overtime work. The figures for estimated annual earnings for 2006 are preliminary until wage statistics for 2007 have been established.

About the statistical basis

The statistics are based on a sample of enterprises with 23 298 full-time employees. According to preliminary figures from the national accounts for the third quarter 2006, the statistics cover about

81 600 employees in social and personal service activities.
