Monthly earnings up by NOK 2 600
Full-time employees in health enterprises had average monthly earnings of NOK 34 400 on 1 October 2007. This is an increase of NOK 2 600, or 8.1 per cent, from 1 October 2006.
The wage statistics measure wage levels on 1 October, irrespective of the time of the wage settlement. As a consequence, the results of the 2006 wage settlements for several professions were not included in the 2006 wage statistics. This has an impact on the observed wage increases from 2006 to 2007. The figures do not include overtime payment.
The main professions in health enterprises are physicians, nurses and enrolled nurses, and approximately two thirds of all full-time employees are women.
Nurses and enrolled nurses
Nurses and specialist nurses in full-time employment had average monthly earnings of NOK 32 200, an increase of NOK 2 700, or 9 per cent, from 1 October 2006. This relatively large increase must be seen in connection with the relatively low increase of 3 per cent in the previous year. Almost nine out of ten full-time employees in these professions are women.
By comparison, enrolled nurses had average monthly earnings of NOK 25 400, up NOK 1 600, or 6.7 per cent from 1 October 2006. Eight out of ten enrolled nurses are women.
Physicians
Physicians had average monthly earnings of NOK 57 300, an increase of NOK 800, or 1.5 per cent. An important factor behind the low increase is a strong increase in the number of physicians from October 2006 to October 2007. A sizeable part of this increase consists of resident physicians and specialist physicians in training.
The average basic salary of physicians, excluding overtime payment and variable additional allowances, rose by 5.2 per cent to NOK 42 600. Physicians have several variable additional allowances, for instance for inconvenient working hours. Such allowances amounted to NOK 14 700 per month on 1 October 2007, as opposed to NOK 16 000 one year earlier. The decline is largely due to the fact that some of the variable additional allowances in 2006 are now included in the basic salary.
About the statistical basisThe statistics are based on information from state hospitals in all health regions, and include all full-time employees. Monthly earnings include salary according to scale and fixed and variable additional allowances. Payment for overtime work is not included. |
