Monthly earnings up 3.5 per cent
Full-time employees in central government had average monthly earnings of NOK 30 000 per 1 October 2005. This was an increase of NOK 1 000, or 3.5 per cent, from 2004.
Central government includes employees in public administration, universities and other non- administrative activities. Female employees working full-time had monthly earnings of NOK 28 300, a rise of NOK 1 100, or 4 per cent. By comparison monthly earnings for full-time male employees were NOK 31 100. This was an increase of NOK 1 000, or 3.3 per cent.
Public administration and universities
Six out of ten full-time central government employees are employed in public administration. This include among other things defense, justice and judical activities, public security and law and order activities and social security activities.
Full-time employees in justice and judical services had average monthly earnings of NOK 30 000, a rise of NOK 1 300 or 4.4 per cent. By comparison, employees in law and order activities had monthly earnings of NOK 29 000, a rise of NOK 900 or 3.2 per cent
Employees in social service activities had monthly earnings of NOK 26 900, up 3.4 per cent, while employees in general public service activities had monthly earnings of NOK 29 900, a rise of 4.5 per cent. About 24 800 are full-time employed in the universities, with mean monthly earnings of NOK 31 300, a rise of 3.1 per cent.
About the statistical basis
The statistics are based on preliminary information on 107 803 full-time employees employees who are reported to the State Central Register of Government Employees per 1 October 2006. The statistics also cover employees paid by the salary scale for leaders.
