Monthly earnings up NOK 1 200
Full-time employees in wholesale and retail trade had average monthly earnings, excluding overtime pay, of NOK 37 400 at 1 September 2012. This is a year-on-year growth of NOK 1 200 or 3.3 per cent.
Wholesale and retail trade includes the industries motor vehicle services, wholesale trade and retail trade. Of these, full-time employees in wholesale trade have the highest monthly wages, with an average of NOK 42 400. The corresponding level for full-time employees in motor vehicle services was NOK 36 000, and full-time employees in retail trade had NOK 31 900.
Retail trade
Full-time employees in retail trade had a growth in monthly earnings, excluding overtime pay, of NOK 600, or 1.9 per cent. The most numerous group in retail trade is the shop assistants, and their earnings edged up 2.7 per cent, or NOK 700.
Wholesale trade
Full-time employed clerks in wholesale trade had a year-on-year rise in earnings of 4.7 per cent, to NOK 33 300.
Motor vehicle services
Craftsmen, such as car mechanics and panel beaters, constitute the majority of this industry. Full-time employed craftsmen had average earnings of NOK 32 200, up NOK 1 000 or 3.2 per cent.
Part-time employees
The trade industry employs a large number of part-time workers. Average monthly earnings for this group, calculated to full-time equivalents, were NOK 26 900; a year-on-year escalation of NOK 800 or 3.1 per cent.
About the statistical basisThe statistics are based on information from a sample of enterprises covering a total of 102 302 full-time employees and 81 206 part-time employees. According to the Norwegian Central Register of Enterprises and Establishments per September 2012, wholesale and retail trade comprises in total 356 900 employees. The term average monthly earnings is the main term in Statistics Norway's wage statistics. Monthly earnings cover basic salaries, variable additional allowances and bonuses. Payment for overtime work is not included. Structural changes within the division along with the outcome of collective bargaining would have a certain effect on the wage increase being measured. |
