Monthly earnings up NOK 1 300

Full-time employees in wholesale and retail trade had average monthly earnings, excluding overtime pay, of NOK 38 700 at 1 September 2013. This is a year-on-year growth of NOK 1 300 or 3.5 per cent.

Wholesale and retail trade includes the industries motor vehicle services, wholesale trade and retail trade. Full-time employees in wholesale trade have the highest monthly wages of these, at an average of NOK 43 900. The corresponding level for full-time employees in motor vehicle services was NOK 37 100, whereas full-time employees in retail trade had NOK 33 300.

Retail trade

Full-time employees in retail trade had a growth in monthly earnings, excluding overtime pay, of NOK 1 400, or 4.4 per cent. The group with the highest number of employees in retail trade is the shop assistants, and their earnings edged up 4.9 per cent, or NOK 1 300.

Wholesale trade

Full-time employed clerks in wholesale trade had a year-on-year rise in earnings of 3.3 per cent, to NOK 34 400.

Motor vehicle services

Craftsmen, such as car mechanics and panel beaters constitute the majority of this industry. Full-time employed craftsmen had average earnings of NOK 33 000, up NOK 800 or 2.5 per cent.

Part-time employees

The trade industry employs a large number of part-time workers. Average monthly earnings for this group, calculated to full-time equivalents, were NOK 27 900, a year-on-year escalation of NOK 1 000 or 3.7 per cent.

The statistics are based on information from a sample of enterprises covering a total of 106 225 full-time employees and 83 603 part-time employees. According to the Norwegian Central Register of Enterprises and Establishments per September 2013, wholesale and retail trade comprises 358 300 employees in total.
