Lower increase in employment for all counties

Between the 4th quarter of 2007 and the 4th quarter 2008, the number of employed persons increased by 1.7 per cent, or 41 000 persons, compared to 4.0 per cent in the previous year. Between 2007 and 2008, Akershus had the highest increase with 2.6 per cent.

The increase in employment came in the first half of 2008. The number of employed persons decreased in the autumn, according to more frequent employment statistics that not only measures the employment in the 4th quarter.

Besides Akershus, Vest-Agder, Rogaland, Buskerud and Hordaland had the highest increase, all with more than 2.0 per cent. Sogn og Fjordane had the smallest increase.

Vest-Agder, Finnmark and Nordland had the highest increase in manufacturing activities, with 6.1, 4.0 and 3.7 per cent respectively. Rogaland had the highest increase in service activities with 2.9 per cent, followed by Akershus and Hordaland, which both had an increase of 2.5 per cent.

The register-based employment statistics are published once a year. More detailed figures for health care personnel on 19 June, employment among short-term immigrants on 23 June and for immigrants on 24 June. More tables are available in the StatBank.
