Stronger growth in total loan debt

The twelve-month growth in total gross debt (C3) was 2.2 per cent to end-May 2017, up from 1.8 per cent the previous month. The increase stemmed from both domestic and foreign debt sources.

Total gross debt amounted to NOK 6 693 billion at end-May, up from NOK 6 678 billion at end-April, according to The credit indicator C3.
Mainland Norway’s gross debt accounted for 90 per cent of the total gross debt at end-May. This amounted to NOK 5 993 billion.
Increase in foreign debt growth
The general public gross foreign debt, which mainly relates to non-financial corporations, amounted to NOK 1 410 billion at end-May, up from NOK 1 438 billion the previous month. The twelve-month growth increased from -8.8 per cent to end-April to -8.1 per cent to end-May.
Mainland Norway accounted for 59 per cent of the public gross foreign debt, which amounted to NOK 827 billion at end-May. The twelve-month growth in mainland Norway’s foreign debt was 1.5 per cent to end-May, down from 1.8 to end-April.
Offshore industries accounted for the remainder of the foreign debt, which amounted to NOK 583 billion at end-May. The twelve-month growth was -18.9 per cent to end-May, up from -21.0 per cent to end-April.
