Weaker growth in total loan debt

The twelve-month growth in total gross debt (C3) was 2.2 per cent to end-January 2017, down from 2.6 per cent the previous month. The increase stemmed from foreign debt sources.

Total gross debt amounted to NOK 6 530 billion at end-January, down from NOK 6 567 billion at end-December.
Mainland Norway’s gross debt accounted for 88 per cent of the total gross debt at end-January. This amounted to NOK 5 761 billion.
Decrease in foreign debt growth
The general public gross foreign debt, which mainly relates to non-financial corporations, amounted to NOK 1 366 billion at end-January, down from NOK 1 426 billion the previous month. The twelve-month growth decreased from -4.8 per cent to end-December to -7.5 per cent to end-January.
Mainland Norway accounted for 52 per cent of the public gross foreign debt, which amounted to NOK 713 billion at end-January. The twelve-month growth in mainland Norway’s foreign debt was -6.3 per cent to end-January, down from -2.8 to end-December.
Offshore industries accounted for the remainder of the foreign debt, which amounted to NOK 653 billion at end-January. The twelve-month growth was -8.7 per cent to end-January, down from -6.8 per cent to end-December.
