Weaker growth in total loan debt

The twelve-month growth in total gross debt (C3) was 1.8 per cent to end-February 2017, down from 2.2 per cent the previous month. The decrease stemmed from foreign debt sources.

Total gross debt amounted to NOK 6 521 billion at end-February, down from NOK 6 530 billion at end-January.
Mainland Norway’s gross debt accounted for 89 per cent of the total gross debt at end-February. This amounted to NOK 5 781 billion.

Decrease in foreign debt growth
The general public gross foreign debt, which mainly relates to non-financial corporations, amounted to NOK 1 338 billion at end-February, down from NOK 1 366 billion the previous month. The twelve-month growth decreased from -7.5 per cent to end-January to -9.0 per cent to end-February.
Mainland Norway accounted for 53 per cent of the public gross foreign debt, which amounted to NOK 714 billion at end-February. The twelve-month growth in mainland Norway’s foreign debt was -5.6 per cent to end-February, up from -6.3 to end-January.
Offshore industries accounted for the remainder of the foreign debt, which amounted to NOK 624 billion at end-February. The twelve-month growth was -12.7 per cent to end-February, down from -8.7 per cent to end-January.
