Fall in gross claim payments for life insurance
In 2009, life insurance companies had a decrease in their gross claim payments by 35 per cent compared to the year before. Non-life insurance companies had a 5 per cent increase in their claims incurred.
The nominal growth in premium income for the non-life insurance industry was NOK 1.2 billion in 2009. This corresponds to a 2 per cent growth. The growth in claims incurred was NOK 1.7 billion; an increase of 5 per cent compared with the previous year.
Accident insurance; increase in claims incurred
During 2009 there was an increase in earned premiums for almost all private non-life insurance services. Motor vehicle insurance services had an increase of 3 per cent. Accident and travel insurance had an increase in earned premiums of 15 per cent. Claims incurred increased by 8 per cent for private non-life insurance services. Accident insurance had an increase in claims incurred by 35 per cent during 2009.
Reduced gross claim payments for life insurance
Gross premiums written for life insurance decreased by NOK 3.2 billion during 2009, compared to 2008. During the same period, gross claim payments decreased by 35 per cent.
The group pension services has the largest share of the gross premiums written and gross claim payments for life insurance. From 2008 to 2009, gross premiums written for group pension services decreased by 10 per cent. Individual capital insurance had an increase in gross premiums written by 37 per cent. Gross claim payments for group pension services sank by 5 per cent during 2009. Individual capital insurance had a 79 per cent decrease in gross claim payments.
