Increased gross premium for life insurance
In 2011, life insurance companies had an increase in their gross premium written of 6.8 per cent compared to the year before. Non-life insurance companies had a 4.3 per cent increase in their earned premiums.
Non-life insurance
The nominal growth in premium income for the non-life insurance industry was NOK 2.3 billion in 2011; this corresponds to a 4.3 per cent growth. The growth in claims incurred was NOK 2.2 billion; an increase of 5.8 per cent compared with the previous year.
Accident insurance; increase in claims incurred
Earned premiums increased for almost all private non-life insurance services in 2011. Motor vehicle insurance services had an increase of 8.4 per cent. Claims incurred increased by 0.4 per cent for private non-life insurance services. Motor vehicles had a decrease in claims incurred of 3.5 per cent in 2011.
Increased premiums for life insurance
Gross premiums written for life insurance increased by NOK 4.5 billion in 2011 compared to 2010. During the same period, gross claim payments decreased by 0.5 per cent.
The group pension service has the largest share of gross premiums written and gross claim payments for life insurance. From 2010 to 2011, gross premiums written for group pension services increased by 7.5 per cent. Accident insurance services had an increase in gross premiums written by 35.4 per cent. Gross claim payments for group pension services increased by 9 per cent in 2011. Individual capital insurance had a 29.5 per cent decrease in gross claim payments.
