Increase in total debt growth

The twelve-month growth in total gross debt (C3) was 5.2 per cent to end-October 2012, up from 4.8 per cent the previous month. The increase stemmed from foreign debt sources.

Total gross debt amounted to NOK 5 042 billion at end-October, up from NOK 5 035 billion at end-September.

 

Mainland Norway’s gross debt accounted for 88 per cent of the total gross debt at end-October. This amounted to NOK 4 431 billion at end-October, up from NOK 4 384 billion the previous month.

Increase in foreign debt growth

The general public gross foreign debt, which mainly relates to non-financial enterprises, amounted to NOK 983 billion at end-October, down from NOK 1 001 billion the previous month. The twelve-month growth increased from -2.6 per cent to end-September to -1.1 per cent to end-October.

Mainland Norway accounted for 56 per cent of the public gross foreign debt, which amounted to NOK 551 billion at end-October. The twelve-month growth in mainland Norway’s foreign debt was 6.4 per cent to end-October, up from -1.0 per cent to end-September. The increase in mainland Norway’s foreign debt stemmed from both short-term and long-term debt.

Offshore industries accounted for the remainder of the foreign debt, which amounted to NOK 432 billion at end-October. The annual growth was -9.4 per cent to end-October, down from -4.3 per cent to end-September. The decrease in the annual growth rate for the offshore industries stemmed from both short-term and long-term debt.

Unchanged domestic gross debt growth in October

The credit indicator (C2) amounted to NOK 4 060 billion at end-October. The twelve-month growth was 6.9 per cent to end-October, unchanged from the previous month. The debt growth in non-financial enterprises was 6.5 per cent, while the growth in household debt was 7.1 per cent. The C2 statistics show that the annual growth in the general public domestic gross debt went up to 7.1 per cent to end-November.
