Weaker growth in total loan debt

The twelve-month growth in total gross debt (C3) was 3.6 per cent to end-September 2016, down from 4.5 per cent the previous month. The decrease stemmed from foreign debt sources.

Total gross debt amounted to NOK 6 592 billion at end-September, down from NOK 6 603 billion at end-August. 

Mainland Norway’s gross debt accounted for 85 per cent of the total gross debt at end-September. This amounted to NOK 5 630 billion.

Decrease in foreign debt growth

The general public gross foreign debt, which mainly relates to non-financial corporations, amounted to NOK 1 505 billion at end-September, down from NOK 1 536 billion the previous month. The twelve-month growth decreased from 2.9 per cent to end-August to -0.9 per cent to end-September. 

Mainland Norway accounted for 46 per cent of the public gross foreign debt, which amounted to NOK 699 billion at end-September. The twelve-month growth in mainland Norway’s foreign debt was -5.7 per cent to end-September, down from -1.2 to end-August. 

Offshore industries accounted for the remainder of the foreign debt, which amounted to NOK 806 billion at end-September. The twelve-month growth was 3.6 per cent to end-September, down from 7.0 per cent to end-August.
