Small decrease in the operating profit from 2003 to 2004

The operating profit for other financial enterprises and financial auxiliaries declined by 9.7 per cent from 2003 to 2004, after a significant increase from 2002 to 2003

The operating profit for other financial enterprises and activities auxiliary to financial enterprises was NOK 3.2 billion in 2004. For 2003 and 2002 the operating profit was NOK 3.6 billion and NOK -2.4 billion, respectively. Hence, the significant raise from 2002 to 2003 did not continue in 2004. This was particularly due to the companies' revenue inside and outside the VAT area for the years 2002-2004, and a merger within the industry "Administration of financial markets" in 2003.

Increase in equity

Total equity increased by 7.5 per cent from 2003 to 2004 and by 8.8 per cent from 2002 to 2003.

The retained earnings, which is linked to the companies' operating profits, went up by 9.6 per cent from 2002 to 2003 and declined slightly from 2003 to 2004.

Sectoral differences

The operating profit was positive for activities auxiliary to financial enterprises for all of the three years in 2002-2004, and was highest in 2003 with NOK 5.3 billion. For other financial enterprises the operating profit was negative for the years 2002 and 2003, but turned into a positive figure of NOK 0.4 billion in 2004. At the end of 2004 activities auxiliary to financial enterprises had an equity of NOK 26.9 billion, whereas the corresponding figure for other financial enterprises was NOK 15 billion. By the end of 2004 the survey comprised 564 enterprises with 3532 employees within activities auxiliary to financial enterprises. The corresponding figures for numbers of enterprises and employees for other financial enterprises were 172 and 190, respectively.
