High increase in the operating profit

From 2004 to 2005, the operating profit for other financial enterprises and financial auxiliaries increased by NOK 5.6 billion. .

In 2005, the operating profit for other financial enterprises and financial auxiliaries was NOK 17.9 billion, which is an increase of 45.6 per cent since 2004. The commission to financial auxiliaries stands behind the growth, and there was also an increase of other financial incomes from 2004-2005.

Total equity increased with 13.9 per cent from 2004 to 2005. In 2005, the retained earnings, which are linked to the companies’ operating profit, increased by 14.4 per cent. Total assets increased too by 15.4 per cent.

Sectoral differences

The operating profit was positive for activities auxiliary to financial enterprises for all of the years between 2002 and 2005, and was highest in 2005, with NOK 7.1 billion. For other financial enterprises, the operating profit was negative for the year 2002, but was at its highest in 2005 with NOK 10.8 billion. At the end of 2005, activities auxiliary to financial enterprises had equity of NOK 35.9 billion, whereas the corresponding figure for other financial enterprises was NOK 88.7 billion. By the end of 2005, the survey comprised 737 enterprises with 7167 employees within activities auxiliary to financial enterprises. The corresponding figures for other financial enterprises were 205 and 496, respectively.

Types of companies in this accounting statistics survey

The statistics comprises enterprises within the two institutional sectors “390 Other financial enterprises” and “490 Activities auxiliary to financial enterprises”. From sector 390, the survey comprises investment and development companies investing in financial instruments. The figures for sector 490 comprise information about companies within administration of financial markets, security broking and fund management, activities auxiliary to financial intermediation n.e.c. and activities auxiliary to insurance and pension funding.

For the following enterprises within sectors 390 and 490, there are separate data collection and publishing of results: Financial holding companies, securities broking enterprises and insurance brokers.
