Increase in operating profit

The operating profit of other financial enterprises and financial auxiliaries increased by NOK 6.1 billion or 34.5 per cent from 2005 to 2006.

The operating profit for other financial enterprises and financial auxiliaries was NOK 23.8 billion in 2006, an increase of 34.5 per cent since 2005. The operating income for financial auxiliaries accounted for some of the growth, and there was also an increase in other financial income from 2005 to 2006.

Total equity increased by 17 per cent from 2005 to 2006. The share premium reserves rose 49 per cent, while short-time liabilities increased by 39 per cent. Current assets increased by NOK 24.6 billion or 31.4 per cent, representing the main change on the assets side.

Variations between sectors

Activities auxiliary to financial enterprises had a positive operating profit in every year between 2002 and 2006. The operating profit was highest in 2006, with NOK 10.2 billion. For other financial enterprises, the operating profit was negative in 2002 and highest in 2006 with NOK 13.7 billion. At the end of 2006, the equity of activities auxiliary to financial enterprises was NOK 41 billion, whereas the corresponding figure for other financial enterprises was NOK 105 billion.

At the end of 2006, the survey comprised 746 enterprises with 7 379 employees within activities auxiliary to financial enterprises. The corresponding figures for other financial enterprises were 233 and 423, respectively.

Types of companies in the survey

The statistics comprise enterprises within the two institutional sectors “390 Other financial enterprises” and “490 Activities auxiliary to financial enterprises”. From sector 390, the survey comprises investment and development companies investing in financial instruments. The figures for sector 490 comprise information on companies within administration of financial markets, security broking and fund management, activities auxiliary to financial intermediation n.e.c. and activities auxiliary to insurance and pension funding.
