Large investments in mutual funds shares
The large net purchase of mutual funds shares continues in the first quarter of this year and has increased further compared to the figures in the previous quarter. The investments are on the whole made by institutional investors, with insurance companies in the forefront.
The market value of all mutual funds shares is 411 billion NOK as of 31 March 2007. This is an increase of 9.9 per cent compared to the figures in the previous quarter. The main part of the increase is due to the large investments this quarter, but also due to higher net asset values on existing mutual funds shares.
The institutional sector “Insurance companies” is now the largest holder of mutual funds shares, with an owner share of 27.9 per cent as of 31 March 2007. In comparison, the sectors “Employees etc” and “Other private non-financial corporations” have owner shares of 27.3 and 12.6 per cent respectively.
Changes in the statistics as from the fourth quarter of 2006The mutual funds’ investments in mutual funds shares are included in the figures as from the fourth quarter of 2006. Previous quarters are published as net figures, i.e. not including these investments. As from the same quarter, the statistics is based on direct information on what mutual funds own of shares, bonds and short-term debt securities. This information is collected from the Norwegian Central Securities Depository and custodians. In addition some adjustments are made in the published tables, among others a more detailed sector specification of the mutual funds shares by holders and of the net purchase of mutual funds shares by purchasers. |
The statistics is now published as Mutual funds.
