Net sales of mutual funds
Data for the 4th quarter of 2014 show net sales of mutual fund shares worth NOK 35 billion, following three consecutive quarters of net accumulations. Despite the net sales, the share capital of mutual funds registered in Norway increased by NOK 6.5 billion, reaching a total value of NOK 904 billion at the end of the 4th quarter of 2014.

The biggest net sales were for equity fund shares, other bond fund shares and bond fund shares, by NOK 23.1 billion, NOK 7.8 billion and NOK 5.4 billion respectively. On the other hand, there were net purchases of hybrid fund shares for NOK 1.8 billion.
Increased value of share capital for equity funds
Despite equity funds having the biggest net sales, this type of fund also had the largest increase in the share capital in the 4th quarter, with an increase of around NOK 14 billion. This corresponds to an increase of 3.2 per cent. Hybrid funds had the largest relative increase in share capital, with an increase of 10.0 per cent, or NOK 3.6 billion. Bond funds had only minor changes in share capital compared to the previous quarter.
The share capital in money market funds and other bond funds decreased by NOK 5.2 and NOK 8.7 billion respectively. This corresponds to a decrease of 5.7 and 12.1 per cent respectively.
Life insurance companies and foreign investors net sold
The biggest net sellers of funds were financial corporations and foreign investors, with net sales worth NOK 15 billion and NOK 14 billion respectively. Most of the net sales by financial corporations were undertaken by life insurance companies and pension funds, which together net sold fund shares worth NOK 13.1 billion in the 4th quarter. These sales were distributed between bond funds (NOK 5.3 billion), equity funds (NOK 3.9 billion) and money market funds (NOK 3.7 billion).
Equity fund shares made up NOK 15.3 billion of foreign investors’ net sales, while other bond fund shares made up NOK 1.5 billion. During the same period, foreign investors net bought bond funds worth NOK 2.1 billion.
Households net sold mutual fund shares worth around NOK 1.2 billion in the 4th quarter of 2014. This mainly consisted of net sales of other bond fund shares.
