Bond funds most popular
The total value of the Norwegian mutual funds went up by NOK 65 billion to a total of NOK 969.1 billion in the first quarter of 2015. This 7.2 per cent increase can be attributed to both increased net sales and the increase in the value of the funds. Investors net bought fund shares for NOK 29.7 billion in total, which includes NOK 23.4 billion of bond funds.

Investors net bought shares of hybrid funds, other bond funds and money-market funds, but not to the same extent as bond fund purchases in the first quarter of 2015. The net purchases were NOK 5.5 billion, NOK 4 billion and NOK 2.4 billion respectively. Investors on the other hand net sold fund shares for NOK 5.4 billion.
Higher share capital for hybrid funds, equity funds and bond funds
Share capital for hybrid funds went up most in terms of percentage; by 18.8 per cent or NOK 7.4 billion in the first quarter of 2015. Share capital for equity funds went up by 7.4 per cent, or as much as NOK 33.3 billion, although investors net sold these types of funds. The increase in the share capital of the bond funds was NOK 20.6 billion or 8 per cent.
Most net purchases by financial companies
Financial companies net bought most fund shares; almost NOK 27 billion. Life insurance companies and pension funds that belong to this sector net bought fund shares amounting to NOK 22.3 billion in the first quarter of the year. NOK 18.5 billion of this amount was bond fund shares.
Foreign investors net sold two consecutive quarters
Foreign investors net sold fund shares of NOK 5 billion in the first quarter of 2015. These investors net sold mostly equity funds amounting to NOK 7.5 billion, and net bought shares of bond funds amounting to NOK 1.2 billion.
Households net purchased
The household sector net purchased fund shares of NOK 2.7 billion in the first quarter of 2015. This was the largest net purchase of fund shares by the household sector since the first quarter of 2010.
