More foreigners give population increase

Longyearbyen and Ny-Ålesund had 2310 inhabitants on 1 July 2017. This is the highest population ever registered.

From 1 January to 1 July 2018 the population of Longyearbyen and Ny-Ålesund raised by 96, from 2214 to 2310.
Since 2009 the proportion of foreigners has grown from 14 per cent of population to 32 per cent. In the age group between 20 and 34 years of age more than 40 per cent are foreigners, and of all women in the age between 25 and 29 years and of men between 30 and 34 years are foreigners.
