Strong growth of immigrant population
The immigrant population of Norway is expected to grow strongly, from 365 000 in 2005 to between 1 and 2 million in 2060, or between 19 and 27 per cent of the total population, according to the first projection of the immigrant population from Statistics Norway. Uncertainty about the future number of migrants to Norway makes the size of the future immigration population highly uncertain. The projection is made by sex and age and separately for immigrants from four groups of countries: Nordic countries, EU/EFTA except Nordic countries, North America and Australia; Eastern Europe except EU members; Africa, Asia with Turkey, and Latin America.
According to Statistics Norway, the immigrant population consists of first-generation immigrants who have moved to Norway and people born in Norway of two parents who were born abroad.
