Strong growth in immigrant population

The immigrant population will increase considerably in the coming years - from the current level of 460 000 to somewhere between 1.1 million and 2.6 million in 2060. With such a development, the immigrant population will constitute between 21 and 31 per cent of the total population.

Statistics Norway has released a new projection of the immigrant population. The previous projection was made in 2005, for the first time. The immigrant population consists of people with two foreign-born parents: first-generation immigrants who have moved to Norway and people who were born in Norway of two parents who were born abroad.
