Construction, new orders (discontinued)Q4 2000

Statistics Norway has decided to stop the publication of the Construction, new orders from the first quarter of 2018. One reason for this was that the statistic previously was a part of Eurostat's regulation for short-term statistics, but this requirement was removed from the regulation in 2012.

Stable high activity in building construction

Construction orderbooks in the building sector, at the end of 2000, were at about the same high level as at the end of the two previous quarters. The inflow of new civil engineering orders is still low, and the value of company reserves at the end of 2000 was 5 per cent lower than at the same time last year.

The value of company reserves for the entire construction industry fell 5 per cent over the course of 4th quarter last year. Compared with the end of 1999, the value nevertheless increased by 15 per cent.

Northern Norway, central Norway and Hedmark and Oppland had the largest decline in order reserves of building projects, with 20.8 and 11 per cent respectively in 4th quarter 2000. Contractors reserves of civil engineering works went down in all regions with the exception of Hedmark and Oppland during the same period.

Fewer new housing projects

Orders for new residential buildings went down from the third to the fourth quarter last year and were at the same level as in the 4th quarter of the previous year. Company reserves of housing projects are still quite high, and the value of unfilled housing orders is 33 per cent higher than at the same time the year before.

Commercial building orders are also at a stable high level. New orders rose by 9 per cent from 3rd to 4th quarter 2000 and are 2 per cent higher than in 4th quarter 1999. At the end of last year the value of company reserves of commercial building projects was 13 per cent higher than at the end of the previous year.

More renovation

Home renovation orders rose rapidly in the 4th quarter of last year after declining in the three previous quarters. Home renovation project reserves at the end of the year were 6 per cent lower than at the same time the year before.

There was also considerable growth at the end of the year in new renovation orders in the commercial building sector. The value of reserves was 26 per cent higher at the end of 2000 than at the end of 1999.
