Decrease in civil engineering works
The value of company reserves in the construction industry went down by 4 per cent during the 4th quarter of 2002. The value of company reserves for civil engineering works decreased the most, by 9 per cent.
Still the value of company reserves for civil engineering works was 2 per cent higher at the end of last year than at the end of 2001. The value of new orders received in the 4th quarter of 2002 was 13 per cent lower than it was the corresponding quarter the year before.
More new non-residential buildings
The value of new orders received on non-residential buildings during the 4th quarter of 2002 increased by 10 per cent compared with the 4th quarter of 2001. The stock of orders on non-residential buildings was 1 per cent higher by the end of 2002 than at the end of the year before.
During the 4th quarter of 2002 the companies stock of residential building projects decreased by 11 per cent, and this is a 7 per cent decrease since the end of 2001. The value of company reserves on new buildings went down by 9 per cent during the 4th quarter.
Decrease in renovation of buildings
Company reserves of housing renovation decreased by 31 per cent from the end of 2001 to the end of 2002, and this is the lowest stock of orders since the end of 1998. During the 4th quarter of 2002 the value of company reserves of housing renovation went down by 23 per cent.
Company reserves on all building projects decreased by 3 per cent during the 4th quarter of 2002.
New base
A new base is taken into use in all the tables published the 4th quarter of 2002. According to Eurostat regulation the base is changed from 1st quarter 1992=100 to year 2000=100.
