Construction, new orders (discontinued)Q3 2016

Statistics Norway has decided to stop the publication of the Construction, new orders from the first quarter of 2018. One reason for this was that the statistic previously was a part of Eurostat's regulation for short-term statistics, but this requirement was removed from the regulation in 2012.

Decreased inflow of civil engineering projects

The value of new building and construction projects was 4 per cent lower in the 3rd quarter of 2016 compared to the same quarter last year. A downturn in the civil engineering industry contributed to this.

While the inflow of building orders had a small increase by 2 per cent, the inflow in civil engineering fell by 21 per cent. In terms of current value, this is the same annual decline as in the 2nd quarter.

The order reserves for the building and construction industry in total rose by 2 per cent in the 3rd quarter. For the building industry, this level was almost unchanged since the 2nd quarter, while the stock in civil engineering projects rose by 4 per cent. Compared to the 3rd quarter of 2015, the total orders increased by 9 per cent. The largest contributor to this growth was housing projects, with a rise in order reserves of 28 per cent measured in current value.

Almost all districts experienced growth compared to the 3rd quarter of 2015. The exceptions here were Rogaland, Hordaland and Sogn og Fjordane, where there was a decline in building and construction reserves.
