High renovation activity

From the first quarter of 2002 to the first quarter this year the production in renovation of buildings increased by 7.2 per cent. Part of this increase may be explained by Easter, which was in the first quarter last year while in the second quarter this year.

From the first quarter last year to first quarter 2003 the production index for new buildings decreased by 0.8 per cent. The building activity in total increased by 2.7 per cent.

The production index for civil engineering works rose by 1.3 per cent. Construction activity in total was 2.5 per cent higher in first quarter this year compared to first quarter last year.

Mesta

From the 1st of January 2003, the state road construction activity is sorted out as a state-owned enterprise called Mesta Ltd. Mesta is so far not included in the basis of the index calculation.
