Increased construction activity

The construction activity in Norway was 2.1 per cent higher in the 1s t quarter of 2004 than in the 1s t quarter of 2003. There is a growth both in the production of buildings and the civil engineering activity.

The production of new buildings increased by 3.0 per cent from the 1st quarter last year to the 1st quarter this year. The repair, maintenance and improvement of buildings are at the same level as last year.

Civil engineering increased by 3.3 per cent from the 1st quarter last year to the 1st quarter this year.
