Production index for construction, Q4 2007

In total, the building activity increased by 6.6 per cent compared with the fourth quarter of 2006. Adjusted for seasonal variations, the production of buildings increased by 1.3 per cent from the third to the fourth quarter last year.

Slight decrease in civil engineering works

Following a strong increase in civil engineering works in 2006 and the first quarter of 2007, the activity decreased in the second half of 2007. Compared to the fourth quarter of 2006, the production in civil engineering works was 1.5 per cent lower in the fourth quarter of 2007. Adjusted for seasonal variations the production fell by 1.8 per cent from the third to the fourth quarter last year.

Annual growth of 6.1 per cent

From 2006 to 2007, the annual index of total production in the construction industry increased by 6.1 per cent. This is based on the average of the quarterly indexes. The partial indexes for the year show an increase in building activity (new buildings and renovation) of 6.1 per cent, while the production in civil engineering works increased by 5.7 per cent.
