High activity in construction

The production in construction was 5.4 per cent higher in the third quarter of 2008 compared with the third quarter last year. The growth is due to increased activity in building renovations, while the construction of new buildings is at about the same level as last year.

Errors in index figures (13.05.2011)

In a quality review of the production index, construction, errors in the calculation were revealed. As a consequence, the index figures dating back to the first quarter of 2008 have been revised. Text and figures in this article are not revised.

The total construction activity in the third quarter this year was 5.4 per cent higher than in the same quarter last year. Production of new buildings increased by 0.4 per cent, while building renovations (improvement, rebuilding, repair and maintenance) increased by 12.6 per cent in the same period. Civil engineering work increased by 4.3 per cent in the last year.

The seasonally-adjusted figures show growth for total construction activity of 2.4 per cent from the second to third quarter 2008.
