Increase in building sector

The building activity increased by 2.9 per cent from the second to the third quarter this year, according to the seasonally adjusted figures. In the same period, civil engineering works production decreased by 0.9 per cent.

Errors in index figures (13.05.2011)

In a quality review of the production index, construction, errors in the calculation were revealed. As a consequence, the index figures dating back to the first quarter of 2008 have been revised. Text and figures in this article are not revised.

The total production in the construction industry increased by 2.1 per cent from the second to the third quarter of 2009, according to the seasonally adjusted figures. Compared to the same quarter last year, unadjusted figures show a decrease in production of 3.9 per cent.

More renovation less new buildings

While production of new buildings decreased by 13.4 per cent, renovation activity increased by 11.2 per cent from the third quarter last year to the third quarter this year. The total building production was 2.4 per cent lower in the third quarter of 2009 compared to the same quarter in 2008.

Decrease in civil engineering works

After a period of record high activity in 2008 the civil engineering works have decreased so far this year. In the third quarter of 2009 the production was 8.5 per cent lower than in the same period last year.
