Increase in dwelling starts

So far this year it has been an upturn in building starts in Norway. In the period January to April 9 793 dwelling starts were recorded. This is an increase of 1 675 dwellings, or almost 21 per cent, compared with the same period in 2004.

The trend substantiates that the growth in the number of dwelling starts leveled off during the summer of 2004, and is at present stabilized at a high level.

1 178 300 square metres of utility floor space were started for dwelling purposes in the first four months of the year, an increase of 19.9 per cent compared with the same period last year.

Increase for industrial buildings

Also for buildings with other purpose than dwellings it is started more utility floor space during the first four months this year, compared with the corresponding period in 2004. It is recorded started 320 700 square metres of utility floor space in holiday properties and private garages and 920 400 square metres for industrial buildings, an increase of 11.7 and 4.2 per cent respectively.
