Decrease in dwelling-starts in January

In total, 2 611 dwelling were started in January 2008. This is a decrease of 28 per cent from the high level in January 2007. The increase in building-starts of industrial buildings continued.

A total of 963 600 square metres of utility floor space was started in January. This is stable from 2007. Of this, 616 800 square metres were started for other purposes than dwellings, an increase of 15.4 per cent. Started floor space for industrial buildings has had the highest increase with 22.0 per cent to 475 800 square metres. Started floor space for holiday houses, garages etc in January 2008 was 140 900 square metres, a slight decrease of 2.5 per cent compared to the corresponding month in 2007.

Compared to January 2007, utility floor space started for dwellings decreased by 20.5 per cent to 346 900 square metres.

Conversion to new property register

As of 5 November 2007 the municipalities will be transferred in groups from the Ground Parcel, Address and Building Register (GAB) to the new property register, Matrikkelen. All municipalities will be transferred by the end of February 2009. In connection with the conversion there may be some delay in the registration of the municipalities that are being transferred. The Norwegian Mapping and Cadastre Authority has an overview of transfer dates for each municipality .
