Strong decrease in building of flats
The building of flats in multi-dwelling buildings decreased by 40 per cent in the first half of 2008 compared with the same period of 2007.
After years with high activity in the large cities of Norway, we experience a considerable fall in the building of multi-dwelling houses. In Oslo, the number of dwelling-starts in multi-dwelling buildings fell 54 per cent in the first half of 2008 from the corresponding period of 2007. In Trondheim the number of started flats decreased from 347 to 31.
The building of detached houses has been more stable over the last years. During the first half of 2008, the number of dwellings starts in detached houses is 6 per cent above the level in 2007.
Building starts of holiday houses remains on a record high level in the first half of 2008. Despite a small decrease in the second quarter, the utility floor space started for holiday houses increased with 12 per cent in the first half of 2008 compared to the same period of 2007.
More office and industrial buildings
During the first half of 2008, 753 000 square metres of utility floor space for office and business buildings was registered started - up 19 per cent from the corresponding period of 2007. Building starts of industrial building and warehouses increased by 28 per cent, compared to the same period of 2007.
Preliminary figuresThe figures that are presented in the monthly building statistics is preliminary, and the sum of the three months in a quarter can deviate from the quarterly building statistics. This is because there may be corrections in the Ground Parcel, Address and Building Register (GAB). Conversion to new property registerAs of 5 November 2007 the municipalities will be transferred in groups from the Ground Parcel, Address and Building Register (GAB) to the new property register, Matrikkelen. All municipalities will be transferred by the end of February 2009. In connection with the conversion there may be some delay in the registration of the municipalities that are being transferred. The Norwegian Mapping and Cadastre Authority has an overview of transfer dates for each municipality . |
