Continued great drop in new buildings
Building activity, measured in total utility floor space started, fell by 26 per cent during the first ten months of 2009 compared with the corresponding period in 2008.
A total of 16 173 dwelling starts were registered during the first ten months of 2009. This is 24 per cent fewer dwelling starts compared with the same period in 2008.
Registered utility floor space starts for industrial and public sector buildings decreased by 31 per cent in the period January-October 2009 compared with the same period in 2008.
Utility floor space started for holiday houses and residential garages went down by 22 per cent compared with the corresponding period last year.
