During the first four months of 2010, building was started on 925 900 m2 of utility floor space for dwellings and 1 673 300 m2 on other than dwellings. This is an increase of 8.4 and 8.1 respectively, compared with the same period last year.
Overall, building was started on 2 599 200 m2 of utility floor space in the period January-April this year. This is an increase of 8.2 per cent compared with same period in 2009.

Building starts for utility floor space for buildings in agricultural and fishery buildings have similarly increased by about 65 000 m2.
More dwellings
Building starts for dwellings increased by 6.3 per cent, from 6 703 dwellings in January-April 2009 to 7 123 this year. April last year did however have especially low figures for building starts of dwellings.
