Growth in building activity
Preliminary figures show an increase in building of dwellings in January-November 2012, compared with the same period in 2011. Figures for dwellings are higher for November, but other than residential buildings are lower.
A total of 27 908 new dwellings have been given building starts hitherto in 2012. This is a good 2 000, or 7.7 per cent, more than the same period in 2011.
Figures for the industrial sector show a decline in building activity. Hitherto in 2012, 5.2 million square metres of utility floor space were started for other than residential buildings. This is an increase of 1.3 per cent compared with the same period in 2011.

Registered building permissionsFigures for buildings in the building statistics rely on dates for when permits are registered by the municipality in the data register (Matrikkelen). A building permit does not always mean that construction will be started at once. Especially in low conjunctures it might be that construction projects are not realised, or may be postponed after a building permit has been granted. When the building activity trend turns from a low to a high level, and vice versa, this could affect the interpretation of the statistics. More details about comparability, quality and other information are available in "About the statistics" . |
