More new dwellings in January

Preliminary figures show an increase in new dwellings in January 2013 compared with January 2012. A total of 18.5 per cent more dwellings were started.

The number of new dwellings given building starts in January was 2 972; an increase of 463 dwellings compared with the same period last year.

A total of 240 600 square metres of utility floor space for industrial buildings were started in January. This is 37.3 per cent less compared with January 2012. Holiday properties (cottages), private garages and other non-industrial activities increased by 2.3 per cent.

In all, new utility floor space decreased by 8.6 per cent.
