Enterprises in the construction industry had a turnover of just over NOK 455 billion in 2014, representing an increase of 5.4 per cent from the previous year. This is the same growth in turnover as in 2013. This trend is also shown in Figure 1. After a decline in turnover in 2009, the construction enterprises had a strong growth in the period 2010 to 2012. In 2013 and 2014, the growth has stabilised somewhat from previous years.

Employment increased by 4.7 per cent in 2014, and thus accounted for just fewer than 229 000 persons. "Specialised construction activities" have the highest number of employees, with about 131 000 persons, which corresponds to 57 per cent of all employees in the construction industry.

The division with the highest turnover in 2014 was "construction of buildings", which accounted for 50 per cent of the entire construction industry and had a turnover of NOK 229 billion. The highest growth was seen among enterprises in “civil engineering”, where the turnover increased by 8.8 per cent.
