Corresponding to the increase in turnover in 2012, the number of enterprises increased by just fewer than 2 200, to a total of 52 700. Similarly, the employment increased by 10 300 to a total of 210 100. This resulted in an increase of 4.3 per cent and 5.2 per cent respectively from 2011. In the same period, the labour costs increased by 10.5 per cent.
Continued strong growth in construction of buildings
The division with by far the highest growth in turnover in 2012 was, as in 2011, construction of buildings. The local-kind-of-activity units in the group development of building projects had a turnover of NOK 61.7 billion in 2012, thereby continuing the growth in 2010, with an increase of 26.4 per cent from 2011 to 2012 compared to 38.4 per cent from 2010 to 2011. Meanwhile, the turnover in the group construction of residential and non-residential buildings increased by 14.1 per cent to a total of NOK 142 billion. This turnover was generated by roughly 17 000 local-kind-of-activity units, with total employment of 68 800.
Highest growth in turnover in Oslo
With the exception of Troms, which had a decrease of 2.3 per cent in turnover from 2011 to 2012, all counties had an increase in turnover during the period. The greatest growth was in Oslo, where the increase in turnover in the construction industry was 20.4 per cent. The turnover in Oslo was NOK 82.5 billion, which corresponds to 20 per cent of the total turnover in the construction industry in Norway. Oslo is thus the largest county in terms of turnover.
Largest share of small local-kind-of-activity units
Businesses with fewer than 10 employees accounted for the largest share of local-kind-of-activity units in 2012, with 91 per cent. They also had the largest number of employees, with 36 per cent of total employment. Only 1 per cent of the local-kind-of-activity units had 50 or more employees, but they accounted for 26 per cent of total employment.
