Construction turnover totalled NOK 462 billion in 2014
Turnover in the construction industry increased by 6.3 per cent from 2013 to 2014, thereby continuing the growth from the previous year. The highest increase was within civil engineering, which increased by 13.9 per cent.

Both employment and turnover for the local kind-of-activity units increased in 2014 by 3.5 and 6.3 per cent respectively. While growth in turnover increased from 5.4 per cent in 2013 to 6.3 per cent in 2014, the employment growth fell slightly, from 4.1 per cent in 2013 to 3.5 per cent in 2014. A total of 56 154 local kind-of-activity units in the construction industry employed 227 347 persons in 2014.
Highest increase in civil engineering
The civil engineering industry showed the greatest change in 2014. The number of employees increased by 10.8 per cent and amounted to 17 728 persons, while turnover was NOK 51.2 billion, with a growth of 13.9 per cent.
The division of construction of buildings had the highest turnover, with NOK 221 billion in 2014. This represents a growth of 4.4 per cent from 2013. The division employed 77 760 persons; 1.9 per cent more than in 2013. Construction of buildings had the largest proportion of the total turnover in the construction industry, with 48 per cent of the turnover.
The local kind-of-activity units in specialised construction activities had the highest number of employees, with 131 859 persons. This corresponds to an increase in employment of 3.6 per cent. The employees in specialised construction activities make up 58 per cent of all employees in the construction industry.
Decrease in gross investments
Gross investments in the construction industry totalled NOK 9 538 million in 2014. This represents a decrease of 7.0 per cent from 2013 and is the first decline in gross investments for the construction industries since 2010 when they were 31 per cent down from 2009. As shown in Figure 3, the gross investments increased again in 2011 and in the last two years have shown a growth rate of just over four per cent.
Highest turnover in Oslo
The construction industry in Oslo had a turnover of NOK 87.4 billion in 2014, which corresponds to 18.9 per cent of the total turnover in the industry. The second highest turnover was in Rogaland, with a share of 10.7 per cent, closely followed by Hordaland and Akershus with 10.0 per cent.
