Solid growth in construction
Preliminary figures show that the turnover for enterprises with building and construction as their main activity amounted to almost NOK 235 billion in 2006 - an increase of 14.7 per cent from the year before.
From 2005 to 2006, the number of enterprises in the construction industry increased by almost 1 900 to 40 043 enterprises. These enterprises employed a total of 158 730 persons, an increase of 8.4 per cent from 2005.
Increase in all main industrial groupings
All main industrial groupings experienced increased turnover and employment from 2005 to 2006. The strongest growth was recorded in the smallest industrial group, ‘Renting of construction or demolition equipment with operator’. In this group, turnover increased by 23.8 per cent from 2005, while employment rose by 14.6 per cent. Almost 61 per cent of the turnover in the construction industry was generated in the industrial group ‘Building of complete constructions or parts thereof; civil engineering’. The total turnover in this group amounted to NOK 143 billion, up 15.5 per cent from 2005. The number of employed persons in this group increased by 9.2 per cent to 82 236 persons.
Preliminary figuresPreliminary figures for structural statistics are published on enterprise level only. In general, figures for enterprises will show other values than figures for local kind-of-activity units. This is due to the fact that an enterprise registered with its main activity in one industry may have local kind-of-activity units in other industries. The data have not been as thoroughly revised as they will be when the final figures are published in May 2008. Deviation between preliminary and final figuresComparisons between preliminary and final figures in 2004 and 2005 show that the final figures for number of enterprises in the construction industry as a total were 0.8 and 1.1 per cent lower than the preliminary figures. In 2004, the final figures for turnover were 0.2 per cent lower than preliminary figures, while the final figures were 0.3 per cent higher than the preliminary figures in 2005. For employment and wages and salaries the deviation between preliminary and final figures was somewhat higher. The employment figures were 4.2 per cent lower in the final figures both in 2004 and 2005. The wages and salaries figures were 3.4 and 1.5 per cent lower in the final figures in 2004 and 2005. Uncertain gross investment figuresThe preliminary figures for gross investment in the construction industry have the greatest uncertainty. The final figures were 18.9 per cent lower than the preliminary figures in 2004, while they where 16.3 per cent higher than the final figures in 2005. This is due to an improved data basis for estimating final figures. |
