Another year of high electricity prices for households

The average price of electricity for households in 2019, excluding taxes and grid rent, was 48.7 øre per kWh, which is about he same level as the top listing the year before.

The overall average price of electricity for households, including grid rent and taxes, amounted to 115.9 øre per kWh in 2019, according to new figures from the electricity price statistics. This is just above 1 per cent higher compared to 2018. The electricity price was 48.7 øre per kWh, and the grid rent and taxes came to 30 and 37.2 øre per kWh respectively.

Contracts with variable prices were most expensive
Households with variable price contracts had the most expensive contract type in 2019, with an average electricity price of 55.7 øre per kWh, excluding taxes and grid rent (see figure 2). For households with contracts tied to the spot price, which is the most common type of contract, the average electricity price was 46.9 øre per kWh. The category older fixed-price contracts had the cheapest contract type in 2019 with an average electricity price of 35.8 øre per kWh excluding taxes and grid rent.

High electricity price for service industries and manufacturing
For service industries, the average price of price of electricity, excluding taxes and grid rent, was 44.6 øre per kWh in 2019. This is 0.3 øre per kWh lower than the previous year. For manufacturing excluding power-intensive manufacturing, the average price of price of electricity, excluding taxes and grid rent went somewhat down from 2018 to 2019, but were still at a high level historically. The average price of price of electricity amounted to 42.7 øre per kWk in 2019.
Much of the electricity to power-intensive manufacturing is sold through fixed-price contracts. The average price of electricity excluding taxes and grid rent was 32.2 øre per kWh in 2019. In comparison this price was 31.6 øre per kWh in 2018.
