Further increase in manufacturing turnover in fourth quarter
Published:
Seasonally-adjusted figures showed that the total turnover in Norwegian manufacturing increased by 1.6 per cent from the third to the fourth quarter of 2018. Increased turnover within machinery and equipment and ships, boats and oil platforms was the main reason for this development.
The index value for turnover in manufacturing was 156.4 (2005=100) in the period October to December 2018, compared to 153.9 in the previous three-month period, according to seasonally-adjusted figures.
1 The index value for period m is the average of period m, m-1 and m-2.

Three-month change: ships, boats and oil platforms contribute the most
Seasonally-adjusted figures showed that the turnover in Norwegian manufacturing increased by 1.6 per cent from the third to the fourth quarter of 2018. Most of the increase stemmed from the domestic market. The export market showed a slight decline in the last quarter of 2018. The biggest contribution to the increase came from building of ships, boats and oil platforms, which had a rise of 18 per cent in the period. Machinery and equipment also had a significant growth in turnover in this period.

Monthly change: manufacturing turnover slightly down in December
Total Norwegian manufacturing turnover had a decline of 1.0 per cent from November to December 2018, according to seasonally-adjusted figures.
The most negative contribution stemmed from machinery and equipment, with a decline of 8.5 per cent from November to December. Basic chemicals had a growth in the same period and contributed the most in curbing the negative development in turnover in manufacturing the last month.
Annual change: considerable growth in manufacturing turnover in 2018
Manufacturing turnover increased significantly from 2017 to 2018 and had an annual change of 7.6 per cent. There was a positive development in both the domestic and the export market.
