Most of the increase stemmed from the domestic market. The export market was unchanged. The biggest contribution to the increase came from machinery and equipment, which had a rise of 23 per cent in the period. Other industries that also reported an increased turnover in the period were:

  • Food Products
  • Building of ships and oil platforms
  • Basic metals

Monthly change: food products with biggest increase

Total Norwegian manufacturing turnover had an increase of 2.4 per cent from December 2018 to January 2019, according to seasonally-adjusted figures.

The most positive contribution stemmed from food products, with an increase of 3.7 per cent from December 2018 to January 2019. A considerable growth in prices on processed fish was a contributing factor to the growth for this industry. For further information on the price trend in the industry, see PPI went up.

The industry grouping refined petroleum, chemical and pharmaceutical products contributed the most in curbing the positive development in turnover in manufacturing in the last month. Lower prices within refined products pushed down the turnover in this industry grouping.

Monthly change: a slight decline in turnover in manufacturing in the euro area in December 2018

Manufacturing in the euro area was down 0.3 per cent from November 2018 to December 2018, according to seasonally-adjusted figures. Total turnover in Norwegian manufacturing went down 1.2 per cent in the same period. In the Nordic countries, the turnover in Denmark was up 4 per cent, while Sweden was down 3.8 per cent, according to Eurostat.
