Manufacturing turnover increases further

Seasonally-adjusted figures showed that the total turnover in Norwegian manufacturing increased by 2.2 per cent from August to October compared to the previous three-month period. A 0.3 per cent increase was recorded from September to October.

The index value for turnover in manufacturing was 155.9 (2005=100) in the period August to October 2018, compared to 152.6 in the previous three-month period, according to seasonally-adjusted figures.

Three-month change: increased turnover in refined petroleum products, chemicals and pharmaceutical products

Seasonally-adjusted figures showed that the turnover in Norwegian manufacturing increased by 2.2 per cent from August to October 2018 compared with the previous three-month period. The majority of the increase stemmed from the export market. The biggest contribution to the increase came from the industry grouping refined petroleum, chemical and pharmaceutical products which had a rise of 11 per cent in the period. A growth in prices for refined petroleum products (see producer price index) was the main cause for the rise in turnover in this industry grouping.

Monthly change: marginal increase in manufacturing turnover

Total Norwegian manufacturing turnover showed an increase of 0.3 per cent from September to October 2018, according to seasonally-adjusted figures. Basic metals was the biggest contributor to the increase in manufacturing turnover. Ships, boats and oil platforms also contributed to the positive development.

The industry grouping refined petroleum, chemical and pharmaceutical products was the biggest contributor to curbing the positive development in total turnover in the period September to October.

Monthly change: lower turnover in manufacturing in the euro area in September 2018

Manufacturing in the euro area was down 1.1 per cent from August 2018 to September 2018, according to seasonally-adjusted figures. Total turnover in Norwegian manufacturing went up 2.3 per cent in the same period. In the Nordic countries, the turnover in Denmark was down 4.6 per cent, while Sweden was up 0.4 per cent, according to Eurostat.
