Three-month change: building of ships, boats and oil platforms contribute the most

Seasonally-adjusted figures show that the turnover in Norwegian manufacturing increased by 2.1 per cent in the period August to October compared the previous three-month period. Both the domestic and the export market saw growth in this period, but the domestic marked contributed the most to the growth.

Most industries had turnover growth. The largest contribution to the increase in Norwegian manufacturing, as in the previous three-month period , came from the industry building of ships, boats and oil platforms, which saw a strong increase of 18 per cent in the period. This is due to some large deliveries in September in this period.

Monthly change: slightly increase in manufacturing turnover

Total Norwegian manufacturing turnover increased by 0.4 per cent from September to October 2019, according to seasonally-adjusted figures.

Fabricated metal products and food products contributed the most to the growth in Norwegian manufacturing turnover, with an increase of 13 and 2.7 per cent respectively. Other industries that also contributed positively were:

  • Repair, installation of machinery
  • Computer and electrical equipment

On the other hand, building of ships, boats and oil platforms, with a significant decrease of 26 per cent, contributed the most to curb the positive development in total manufacturing turnover. This is mainly due to the fact that the industry had a remarkable high turnover in September due to some large deliveries.

Monthly change: decrease in turnover in manufacturing in the euro area in September 2019

Manufacturing turnover in the euro area decreased by 0.4 per cent from August to September 2019, according to seasonally-adjusted figures. Total turnover in Norwegian manufacturing increased by 1.2 per cent in the same period. In the other Scandinavian countries, the turnover in Denmark increased by 2.8 per cent, while the turnover in Sweden decreased 0.7 per cent, according to Eurostat.
