Three-month change: production increase in oil platforms and fish
According to seasonally-adjusted figures, manufacturing output increased with 1.4 per cent in the period May-July 2019, compared with the previous three-month period. The growth is particularly related to a strong output increase of 8.4 per cent within ships, boats and oil platforms. The activity level was especially high among producers of oil platforms. Furthermore, food products also contributed positively due to high production within processing and preserving of fish.
On the other hand, the overall output increase was dampened by a production fall in basic chemicals. The decline is due to shutdowns among some leading producers.

Monthly change: output growth from June to July
According to seasonally-adjusted figures, manufacturing saw an output growth of 1 per cent from June to July 2019. The industry grouping refined petroleum, chemicals and pharmaceutical products contributed strongly to the increase in this period. Machinery and equipment, on the other hand, experienced a clear production fall, and contributed to reduce the overall output increase.
Output decrease in the Euro area and in Scandinavia in June 2019
Estimated figures from Eurostat, the EU’s statistical office, indicate that manufacturing output in the Euro area had a clear decrease of 1.7 per cent from May to June 2019. In the same period, Norwegian manufacturing also declined by 0.9 per cent.
Sweden saw an output decrease of 1.1 per cent, while Denmark experienced a clear drop of as much as 6.8 per cent.

Three-month change: marginal decline in total industrial production (PII)
According to seasonally-adjusted figures, the total production index (PII) covering extraction, mining, manufacturing and electricity supply saw a minor decline of 0.4 per cent in the period May-July 2019 compared with the previous three-month period. Extraction of crude petroleum decreased strongly by 7.3 per cent, while extraction of natural gas increased by 2.2 per cent. For more details about oil and gas extraction for July 2019, see the press release from The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate.
Within support activities for petroleum and natural gas extraction, there was an output increase equivalent to 3 per cent in the period May-July 2019 compared with the previous three-month period. The growth is partly related to an investment increase in the Norwegian oil and gas sector.
In the same period, production within mining and quarrying was more or less unchanged, while output within Norwegian electricity supply increased by 3.6 per cent.
1 The index value for period m is the average of period m, m-1 and m-2.
