Reduced manufacturing turnover

Seasonally-adjusted figures show that the total turnover in Norwegian manufacturing decreased by 4.5 per cent in the period March-May 2020, compared with the previous three-month period. On a monthly basis, from April to May 2020, the manufacturing turnover increased by 1.5 per cent.
The index value for turnover in manufacturing was 153.4 (2005=100) in the period March-May 2020 compared to 160.6 in the previous three-month period according to seasonally-adjusted figures.

Three-month change: reduced turnover in refined petroleum, chemicals and pharmaceuticals
Seasonally-adjusted figures show that the turnover in Norwegian manufacturing decreased by 4.5 per cent in the period March-May 2020 compared to the previous three-month period.
The industry grouping refined petroleum, chemicals and pharmaceutical products contributed the most to the negative development with its decline of 26 per cent in the period. Lower demand and decreased prices on refined petroleum products in the three-month period was a contributing factor. Machinery and equipment and fabricated metal products also contributed to the decline in the period March-May 2020. Chemical products and metal products reported a slightly growth in the three-month period and contributed to curbing the negative development.
Monthly change: food products increases manufacturing turnover
Total Norwegian manufacturing turnover increased by 1.5 per cent from April to May 2020, according to seasonally-adjusted figures. The domestic market contributed to the increase while the export market fell considerably. For more details about the export market, see External trade in goods.
Food products contributed the most to the increase in Norwegian manufacturing turnover, with an increase of 6.0 per cent. Fabricated metal products and building of ships and oil platforms also contributed to the increase in manufacturing turnover.
The industry grouping refined petroleum, chemicals and pharmaceutical products contributed the most to curbing the positive development in the manufacturing turnover with a decrease of 5.5 per cent in the period. Chemicals contributed the most to the decrease in the industry grouping with a decrease of 20 per cent.

Monthly change: sharp decrease in manufacturing turnover in the euro area in April 2020
Manufacturing turnover in the euro area decreased by 22 percent from March to April 2020, according to seasonally-adjusted figures. Total Norwegian manufacturing turnover decreased by 9.9 percent in the same period. In the other Scandinavian countries, the turnover in Denmark and Sweden decreased by 9.3 and 20 per cent respectively, according to Eurostat.
